Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Young Scientists Fellowship

In reverential memory of late President and Scientist Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, TERRE Policy Centre, instituted the scheme for Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Young Scientists Fellowship with the aim of distinguishing young scientists from rural area of extraordinary promise and creativity who have made notable research contributions in the field of Environment protection. However, this fellowship has been solely managed and funded by TERRE. The Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Young Scientists Fellowship, considered to be the highest recognition of promise, creativity and excellence in a young scientist, is made annually to those distinguished for these attributes as evidenced by their research work carried out in India.

Important Dates

  • Submission Starting date – 14th November 2015

  • First Round of evaluation – March 2016
  • Second Round of Evaluation – April 2016
  • Jury meeting Interview – 1st week of May 2016
  • Interviews of Shortlisted Applicant – June 2016
  • Fellowship Announcement – July 2016



The fellowship of an Academy medal to a Young Scientist shall be made in recognition of notable contributions or having measurable impact on the protection/overall improvement of the environment, on the basis of work carried out in India. Following is an indicative but not exhaustive list of work areas concerned:

  • Prevention of Pollution.
  • Conservation of Natural Resources.
  • Climate Change Mitigation.
  • Environmental Planning and Management.
  • Environmental Impact Assessment.
  • Outstanding field work (innovative research work) for Enrichment of Environment e.g. afforestation, land reclamation, water treatment, air purification, etc.
  • Environmental Education.
  • Creating Awareness on Environmental Issues
  • Academic eligibility - Masters in any of the field or appearing final year of Masters (M.Sc, MA, M.E, PHD etc)

Any citizen of India, who has not attained the age of 28 years on 31st December 2016, of the year preceding the year of fellowship, shall be eligible for the fellowship.


Nature of Fellowships

Each fellowship will carry upto 1, 00,000/- (Rs. One lakh only) in cash along with a citation, scroll and Medallion. The number of fellowships to be made in any year will be limited to 5.



Procedure of submission of Nominations

Adequate publicity shall be given to invite nominations for the Prize each year. The total period of inviting nominations shall be 90 days from the date of publication of the advertisement. Besides, publishing advertisement in the prominent newspapers for adequate publicity, a circular inviting nomination shall also be sent to all colleges and Universities of India.
